It’s small and it’s mighty. The IBM eServer 326m — now called the IBM System x3455 — deserves bragging rights as “the fastest 1U we’ve ever thrown in a rack,” says tester Tom Henderson, who also gave the box kudos for serviceability. IBM pitches this server to small and midsize businesses that need a compact box for processing CPU-intensive applications. The model we tested had dual-core AMD Opteron 285 64-bit CPUs and 16GB of memory.
What’s new? The IBM x3455 now boasts dual- or quad-core Opteron 2000 series processors and as much as 48GB of memory.
