World's first ATCA-based solution deployed in China

Chinese telecom giant Huawei and its partner China Mobile, have deployed what they believe to be the world's first ATCA-based (advanced telecom computing architecture) mobile softswitch solution in Guangdong province.

The companies said they are now serving 1.7 million subscribers in Dongguan City and claim to have made a record for the single largest user-supported service by any vendor.

ATCA offers tangible benefits to operators

Huawei provides next-generation telecommunications network solutions worldwide and offers a unique ATCA mobile softswitch system having the ability to support 12 million subscribers with one device. Operators can use the system across a variety of applications and leverage its high-capacity and high-integration features.

Huawei's ATCA mobile softswitch system defines a high-availability, chassis-based platform that will scale from gigabits- to terabits-per-second. The solution allows the operators to smoothly migrate to a future-oriented convergence network and build effective, green and reliable core networks.

Huawei' s ATCA-based mobile softswitch solution has helped China Mobile to reduce its power consumption by 65 per cent.

Telecom giant ready for subscriber growth

The officials note that the number of mobile softswitch subscribers hit 1.5 billion by the second quarter of 2009 and Huawei is committed to providing operators with viable All-IP mobile softswitch solutions.

Huawei's ATCA mobile softswitch solution has been recognised in the industry for its features. Market research firm Infonetics reported that with 39 per cent market share, Huawei' s mobile softswitch shipments ranked number one in 2008.

Earlier this year, the solution bagged a 2009 InfoVision Award from the International Engineering Consortium (IEC) at the Broadband World Forum Europe.

The operators can benefit from an ATCA-based system that offers faster time to market, increased flexibility and reduced total cost of ownership.
