Amy Schurr dispenses advice on managing human and capital assets for maximum ROI.
The Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) recently updated the exam for its Network+ certification to place greater emphasis on security and wireless skills.
CompTIA’s 2008 survey of 3,500 IT managers in 2008 found that more than 60% of 3,500 IT leaders believe workers with general network and network infrastructure skills will be in high demand for the next few years.
“Network security considerations are top of mind for organizations of all shapes and sizes. Wireless computing options continue to proliferate and today’s networks are expected to handle a myriad of advanced applications,” says Terry Erdle, senior vice president of skills development for CompTIA.
The 2009 edition of the vendor-neutral certification focuses on management and operations of network infrastructure, testing for the ability to maintain, troubleshoot, and install a network. Those who obtain the certification should be able to describe network technologies, understand basic design principles, adhere to wiring standards, and use the right testing tools.
More than 235,000 IT professionals are Network+ certified. In addition to that designation, CompTIA offers 11 other high-tech certifications.
