Lay-offs at AvayaBy Anonymous on March 19, 2009, 5:55 pmI haven't seen much said about the quiet, gradual and continued lay-offs at Avaya across the globe. The numbers seem small when considered monthly, but add them up and it amounts to a large number of people. Dirty tricks and both incompentant and insensitive management - anything goes - even accusations of performance failures for having taken off a few weeks after my dear sister passed away at the age of 49 despite customer endorsements of commendations for what had been achieved. But on the upside, companies are employing people - you have to use your network though and become somewhatr flexible in the what where and when. Throw all the energy you would normally put into your working day into the task of finding a new job - treat it like a job in it's own right - get up as per normal and set yourself tasks/targets as you would normally do in your 9-5 day. I had several months notice (my position was ïn jeopardy") before I left Avaya and worked from 9-5 at my job hunting. When I finally left Avaya at the end of September last year, I started work for my new employer the following day - and the severance package finally agreed did sooth my bruised ego! .
take it from me.. i was laid off tooBy Anonymous on February 20, 2009, 11:47 amAs a network engineer working for Lucent, I was laid off in 2001 as part of the company's 'workforce reduction program'. Along with my 'pink slip', I was fortunate to receive a relatively decent severance package, worth about five months of pay. Prior to my layoff, I had been consistently employed for fifteen straight years. I had even worked full-time through college. Perhaps for those reasons, I made the mistake of assuming that I wouldn't have a problem finding a job. As soon as I stopped working, I took a three week vacation to Mexico to 'relax before the job hunt'. And when I got back, I probably didn't really start getting serious about job hunting until I was a month away from running out of money. Well, guess what.. I ran out of money, and I still didn't have a job. I didn't find a job for another four months after I ran out of money. Thanks to my relatives, I made it through the difficult times relatively well. But I regret having wasted my time at the beginning of my unemployment. So, please remember: if you're laid off, and are fortunate enough to get a severance package, DO NOT make the mistake of relaxing just because all of a sudden you feel financially strong, or because you believe you can find a job quickly. Be positive, but ACT! That's all I wanted to say. I hope everyone makes it well during these difficult times. C. Hernandez Fort Lauderdale, FL

laid off :-(By Anonymous on January 7, 2009, 12:40 pmohh !! what can i Do for a living now ?? I am so damned depressed because of the continous laid offs in my company and others worldwide. LOL ! CHEER UP MAN !! Don´t be so sad, though tough times now. Anyway big Companies won´t feel any sorrow about your recent job loss. They just see figures and need to order their budgets and profit margins. Eventually, they will hire people again. :-) In the meantime, try to associate to others or independently do some consultancy or advisory jobs for small and medium companies. And do not rip them off , or your services will be very unfrequent.
